UNMASKING YOUR MOVEMENT

Freestyle & SELF-expression
INTENSIVE

with Tracee Kafer & Jess Linick, PhD

Together, we’ll explore what lives beneath the mask.

Fri, October 10th - Sun, October 12th
Hosted at
IV Pole Studio
New Windsor, New York
The Hudson Valley

What might be revealed if you moved—not to perform, but to remember who you truly are?

Unmasking Your Movement is a 12-hour freestyle and movement exploration intensive designed to compassionately guide you into deeper layers of your self-expression.

Through a blend of somatic exploration, freestyle dance, and group-based self-inquiry and constellation, we will journey beyond the surface—honoring the purpose of the protective masks we’ve learned to wear, and gently beginning to dissolve them.

Together, we’ll explore what lives beneath the mask.

This is a space of courageous vulnerability, artistic discovery, and embodied truth. We’ll meet the parts of ourselves we’ve hidden, silenced, or reshaped for the sake of survival—and we’ll do so with care and reverence. This is not about forcing authenticity, but creating the safety for it to arise naturally through community, movement, and presence.

What’s included:

  • Guided freestyle sessions to explore movement as language and liberation

  • Self-inquiry practices to support emotional clarity and creative depth

  • Group constellations to witness and be witnessed in your unfolding

  • A trauma-informed container that honors personal boundaries and pacing

  • Integration practices to carry the insights into daily life and artistry

Are you ready to meet your essence beneath the masks you wear?

About FYF Creator, Tracee Kafer

Tracee Kafer, the creator of Finding Your Freestyle®, has a near-lifetime of experience in the world of dance, and 18 years focus on the art of pole. She’s journeyed through the landscapes of a student, performer, nationally-ranked competitor, world-traveling teacher, NY-based choreographer, and in the last decade shifted purposefully to the realms of the explorer.

Practicing and facilitating her own ever-evolving freestyle movement methods in the energetics of groups, she aims to continuously untether from genre, style, convention, and apparatus in order to gather in the communal love of moving from an authentic voice. She believes that if you can move (and feel), you can dance, and in honoring that process as a life practice, you can live in a world of presence, connection, and freedom.

Tracee has in recent years begun integrating movement with other modalities that center on the somatic experience and deeper practices of self-exploration, including Family & Systemic Constellations, the Tarot, parts work, guided imagery, and embodied meditation.

About Jess Linick, PhD

Jess, PhD, SEP, is a clinical psychologist, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner®, and lifelong dancer. Trained in a variety of styles (e.g., ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, salsa, modern, contemporary), Jess took her love of movement to the pole in 2011 while living in Los Angeles. After taking her first FYF class in 2012, she immediately felt at home. In 2014, Jess and Tracee co-created Pole Speak, an improvisational-based pole dance company, and in 2017, she joined the Finding Your Freestyle team. Since then we’ve hosted many retreats, weekend immersions, and workshops together.

Jess brings her training as a clinical psychologist directly into this work, combining her knowledge of mind-body integration with FYF movement practices. To Jess, freestyle movement is more than just “dancing”– it is a way of being in the world, of interacting with space and time; a way of living. Unencumbered, open, and vulnerable, we are invited to harness intuition, follow our inner compass, locate embodied joy, and express ourselves in ways that ring true for us most clearly.

What You Bring is Welcome

The mask

〰️

The mask 〰️

The masks you bring with you are not only welcome—they are essential to this journey.

In this space, we honor the archetype of the mask as a powerful protector, a creative adaptation, and a wise part of your story. Masks are not mistakes; they’ve served functions of survival, belonging, and identity.

Rather than rushing to remove them, we’ll get curious about their origins, their gifts, and the truths they’ve been guarding. Through movement, inquiry, and shared exploration, we’ll invite what’s underneath to emerge—not by force, but through reverence.

You don’t need to leave your mask at the door. Bring it. We’ll meet it together.

Expectations & Levels

Current lovers of (or those curious) about using pole dance and freestyle for self-exploration and self-expression, who love to explore themselves through movement, embodiment and self-inquiry practices are encouraged to attend.

Intensives can have an amplifying affect, and over the course of this intensive you may move though feeling challenged, nourished, resistant, and/or inspired. It is recommended that you have ample resources for an experience like this — people, places, and things that support your regulation, self-connection, and grounding. It is also important if possible to have some space before/during/after the experience for rest, digestion, and integration.

We don't work at a particular technical or skill level, we work with the forms, ability, and access your body has at present. Same goes for any non-moving practices we use. You can be new, a hobbyist, professional, semi-retired, or all the way to mastery, all is welcome.

Getting Here & Where To Stay

Our host studio is located in New Windsor, NY virtually right on the Hudson River and connected to AirBnB-friendly towns like Newburgh (5-10 min) and Beacon (20 min across the Hudson).

We recommend finding shared housing with fellow participants (we’ll connect all enrolled students in a shared WhatsApp thread).

New Windsor is close to the Stewart Newburgh International Airport, 90 minutes from Newark Airport or to NYC on the Metro North to the Salisbury Mills/Cornwall Train Station.

As needed, we can do our best to arrange carpools and pickups.
