Dance was a first love for Tracee Kafer, who started at the innocent age of 3. Many moons later, with over 28 years of training in multiple genres and a decade of teaching (domestically and internationally), performing, and choreographing, she has now turned feverishly to improvisational movement to feel truly untethered from genre, style, convention, and apparatus. She believes that if you can move… you can dance, and in honoring that process as a life practice, you can live in a world of personal evolution, community, and freedom.
A true inspiration addict, with an insatiable appetite for both the logical and mystical, Tracee is a tarot and crystal healing enthusiast, Reiki II practitioner, certified Floor Flow instructor, practicing yogi, bibliophile, and graphic design digital nerd with a degree in Advertising.
Though movement has been her most prevalent form of exploration, creativity and release, Emily Rose originally began expressing herself through abstract art. Emily studied color and form, creating large scale abstractions and photography while obtaining a degree in Studio and Fine Art at Southern Connecticut State University. She is also a published photographer. After years of experimenting with multiple media and concepts for projects she has come to realize that it is not about what you produce or create, but how you do it, as well as what you learn from the failures and successes along the way. She applies this process to her movement practice, constantly reminding herself and her students that cultivation and journey are just as important, if not more, then an end result. Working along side Tracee Kafer and Finding Your Freestyle, has been the perfect platform for her to spread her love of all things creative, moving, and connecting. Emily is also a Reiki Practitioner, FYF Facilitator and Visual Artist for the FYF brand, (with many new projects on the horizon!) Spreading good vibes and love is her passion.
Michael Jay is a health coach who has studied shiatsu with Ohashi, tuning forks in the Acutonics system and other healing modalities including EFT and Reiki. He is committed to using sound for its immense healing power and has been studying with and assisting the Grand GongMaster Don Conreaux in his N.Y. workshops., and has also assisted at the Open Center in their 2015/16 Sound And Music Institute program. Michael is also the catalyst for multifaceted sound based collective SVAHA (Sound Vision Alchemy for Harmonic Attunement)
Dr. Jess Linick is a clinical psychologist specializing in trauma, meditation, mindfulness, and body-oriented psychotherapy. She received her PhD from Columbia University, and currently works in a juvenile detention center in New York City. Dr. Jess began pole dancing while living in Los Angeles at BeSpun in 2011, and began studying at Body & Pole when she moved back to NYC in 2012. Along with Tracee Kafer, she is the co-creator of Pole Speak. She is in the process of becoming trained in Somatic Experiencing®, a body-oriented, trauma-focused healing modality, and is also Reiki Level 1 attuned.
Dr. Jess will be bringing group meditation and mindfulness sessions, as well as personal healing sessions, to the Find Your Free retreat. Personal sessions will focus on mind-body integration, and will encourage people to foster a better connection with their bodies, unlock any “stuck” patterns (both mentally and physically), and to move through anything that may be holding them back from being their most free self. Sessions can be personalized to a particular topic, or can be a free flowing exploration of what your body may be trying to tell you. Dr. Jess will also offer individual meditation and Reiki sessions.
Emily Sanderson has been teaching movement since age 14 when she started instructing the younger students at her Irish dancing school in Ventura, California. While working towards her degree in Kinesiology she began studying many different forms of dance and movement and earned her first Pilates certification at age 19. After college she started training in the aerial arts, and when she found pole dancing she became hooked. She eventually moved to NYC to work at Body & Pole, teaching and training extensively in pole, flexibility, and floorwork. She is a continuous student of anatomy, yoga, functional movement, and dance, and is a certified instructor in Pilates, pole, flexibility, and Floor Flow. As an instructor Emily hopes to bring her students the same sense of strength and freedom within the body awareness developed by physical training.
Cecilia De Bucourt is a photographer and fashion designer. She started her career as a model at the age of 14 when she participated in Ford’s supermodel of the World contest in U.S. From the age of 15 to 23 she modeled in Japan, Spain, Italy and France and traveled the world which awakened her passion for photography and creating images. Cecilia worked as a stylist, make up artist and hair dresser for a year before she decided to study fashion design at F.I.T. Once she finished her studies and her fashion label was created, she studied photography at I.C.P (International Center Of Photography) during 5 years. Photographing movement and women are her favorite subjects.
Kiele is a health-supportive chef specializing in plant-based nutrition, vegan, and vegetarian cuisine. She received her culinary certification at the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York City.
Kiele became curious about this lifestyle after a severe nickel allergy. After 7 months of suffering and numerous doctor’s visits, she abandoned all Rx medication and was able to heal herself through clean, organic, plant-based foods. Kiele is passionate about cooking to cure, and understanding that each individual thrives on diets unique to their own specific needs. She embraces the idea that what we eat affects our physical, mental, and spiritual well being.
Michelle Dawson combines the best of Eastern tradition and Modern rebellion to reach the sacred poise of body and mind. She brings to class passion and grace, encouraging students to push the boundaries of their own practice. With a teaching style enriched with experience and study, Michelle’s students marvel in her invigorating, uplifting, and balanced approach to Yoga. Her classes are an extension of her love for art and music, and her influences include Mehndi, the ancient Indian art of adorning the body with Henna.
Michelle is an Ananda Ashram-certified yoga teacher (since 2007) and the owner and operator of The Body Art Barn.
